Project Overview
The project is for demolition and replacement of the Frederick Street Bridge, including associated excavation, grading, drainage, underground utilities, erosion control, structural demolition and reconstruction, paving, electrical systems, and complex traffic staging during construction.
The replacement of the existing Frederick Street bridge is required for the construction of New Highway 7 between the Cities of Kitchener and Guelph. The Frederick Street bridge needs to be lengthened to permit the Edna Street ramp to Highway 7 and the Highway 7 ramp to Bruce Street to be repositioned to accommodate the widening of Highway 7.
The replacement bridge will consist of a new two-span structure. The pier location will be in the center of the highway between the northbound lane and southbound lanes. The width of Frederick Street on the replacement bridge will be similar to the existing bridge but modified to provide for a single traffic lane in each direction, shoulders, and multi-use paths.
Frederick Street Bridge will be raised to permit construction and provide clearance for traffic on Highway 7. In addition, a portion of the future southeast retaining wall that is in proximity to 507 Frederick Street will also be re-constructed. This future retaining wall will include a noise barrier.
Contract has been awarded to Graham Brothers as contractors. Stantec will be the Contract Administrators on the project.
