Wellington Street W-S Ramp Closure

W-S Ramp from Wellington Street to Southbound Hwy 85 will be closed November 29, 2025 and will remain closed until approximately November 2026.

Frederick Street - Full Closure

Frederick Street will be closed between Edna Street and Ann Street in the City of Kitchener, starting on December 1, 2025, and will remain closed until approximately November 2026.  Long-term single lane closures on Highway 7/85 southbound and northbound collector lanes will be in place during this time.

A local signed detour for Frederick Street traffic will be in place along Edna St, Victoria St N and Bruce Street.  Local access to businesses on Frederick Street will be maintained at all times.

Highway 7/85 - Full Closure for Bridge Demolition

Highway 7/85 - Frederick Street bridge demolition is scheduled to occur on December 6, 2025 and December 7, 2025.  Highway 7/85 will be fully closed at Ottawa Street in the northbound direction and at Wellington Street in the southbound direction. 

Access to Highway 7/85 will be closed from Ottawa Street, Wellington Street, Edna Street and Bruce Street during this time. 

Closure times are as follows:

• All Highway 7/85 northbound and southbound lanes will be closed starting at 10:00pm on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

• Northbound collector lanes will be re-opened by 12:00pm on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

• Northbound and Southbound express lanes, and Southbound collector lanes will all be re-opened by 6:00pm on Sunday, December 7, 2025

No detour on Highway 7/85 will be provided for the demolition, and commuters are expected to find alternate routes.  An advanced notice signage plan will be placed two weeks in advance of the demolition.

The demolition and closure are weather dependant. Any changes to schedule or duration will be communicated as impacts are known.

Hwy 7/85 South Bound Lanes: 

Southbound Lanes 0.25 km north of Highway 85 and Lancaster Street Underpass to 0.05 km north of Highway 7 and Krug Street Overpass, Kitchener: Lane and Speed reduction in effect due to removals for new bridge construction.
